Cement-Grade Fluorspar

Cement-grade fluorspar is used in cement manufacturing as a flux during the clinker burning process. Its primary function is to promote liquid-phase formation at lower temperatures, thereby improving burnability of the raw mix and enhancing kiln thermal efficiency.

By reducing the temperature required for clinker formation, cement-grade fluorspar helps stabilise kiln operation, lower specific heat consumption, and support more consistent clinker quality. Its effect is particularly evident in systems with high lime saturation factors, difficult-to-burn raw mixes, or under energy and emission reduction constraints.

From a production standpoint, the controlled use of fluorspar can contribute to improved clinker mineral formation, especially in achieving a more favourable balance of silicate phases. This, in turn, supports the production of cement with reliable strength development and durability characteristics.

In addition to operational benefits, reduced fuel demand resulting from lower burning temperatures leads to decreased CO₂ emissions, assisting cement producers in meeting increasingly stringent energy efficiency and environmental compliance requirements.

Cement-grade fluorspar is typically applied at low addition rates and should be evaluated through plant trials to determine the optimal dosage based on raw material composition, kiln design, and target clinker quality.
